A Saturday in September 2016 ~ Church Walk at Rothbury

An Autumn walk ~ but what glorious weather! We walked through the village, through fields, up hills and climbed rocks for lunch. The scenery was stunning and the music from Thropton Fair drifted across the valley. We ended with a welcome ice cream in Rothbury. Thanks Brian for organising!

August Bank Holiday Weekend 2016 ~ Devoted Festival, Newark Showground

In August 2016, a number from Gateway Church Northumberland went to the Devoted Festival held at Newark Showground, organised by the ChristCentral family of churches. The weekend was full of worship, great talks, new craft experiences, Lego building workshops, food, fun, laughter, relaxation and getting to know each other. Everyone is looking forward to the next event!

Sunday August 3rd 2014 ~ Dedication of the new War Memorial & Fun Day

August the 3rd saw the Dedication of the new War Memorial in Shilbottle. A service at the Parish Church was followed by a short service and unveiling of the new memorial. A parade then brought the people of the village down to Shilbottle Community Hall for an afternoon of free food and fun. Gateway Church helped out with the BBQ and sound. A great community day!

Week Beginning July 28th 2014 ~ Hall Maintenance Week

As part of the Hall Maintenance week, and beyond, Gateway joined with others from the community and fitted shelves, cleaned chairs, cleaned and painted walls and reupholstered chairs. A fun few days with good outcome!

Easter Sunday April 20th 2014 ~ Sunrise Service and Breakfast

This Easter we decided to have a Sunrise Service on Alnmouth Beach. Many people turned up, including some visitors on holiday from Shrewsbury! Although a bit nippy, we sang great Easter hymns, took part in a dramatic retelling of the first Easter Sunday and saw the sun rise. Then it was back to Joss and Gill’s for a hearty breakfast ~ full English or croissants and toast, all was available. A great celebration of our Lord’s resurrection.

Saturday March 29th 2014 ~ In Christ Together Weekend

In Christ together

On Saturday 29th March a group of us went to a meeting of the North Eastern Christ Central Churches in Darlington.  Leaders from the churches in the area told everyone about what had been happening recently in their churches – good things and some not so good – but it was all very encouraging.  Jeremy Simpkins preached on Ephesians 1:10; 2:10 and 3:10.  It was great to meet people from other churches and to make new friends. We had a tour round the Kings Centre which is a fantastic building with lots going on to glorify God and to serve the community. It was an inspiring weekend that has set us all thinking and praying!

Sunday November 3rd

Gateway Church Northumberland celebrated with Sarah as she was baptised ~ in the hot tub in Gill & Joss’ garden! Sarah gave a great testimony of how God has changed her life and was then baptised by Gill and Joan. A fantastic day!IMG_6459

Saturday October 5th & Saturday November 2nd

Two days spent down at West Chevington Cottages clearing the gardens so that Paul & Sarah can get on with the renovations. October was lovely and sunny and warm. In November it rained! Everyone had a great time, many trees were felled, bushes removed and branches chipped. The lunches were fab too! Well done everyone.

Weekend of August 22nd – 26th

The group

A group from Gateway Church Northumberland, along with some friends from County Church, went to the NORTH 2013 weekend ~ the 10th and last NORTH. Living in tents and caravans in a field in North Yorkshire along with around 2000 other people, we had a fantastic time worshiping God, hearing what he had to say to us, getting to know each other better, meeting old friends, making new friends and generally having a great time together.

Of his experience of NORTH Brian says:

“I really enjoyed my few days at NORTH. It wasn’t anything like I expected. The atmosphere in the barn was amazing, the speakers were interesting, those who spoke about what God had done for them were mind-blowing and I can’t wait to go to the event at Newark.

There were so many people around – so many tents and caravans in one place – it was really wonderful! Even though the gas would not work in our caravan we were fine, because people helped by providing hot water and drinks.

I am glad that I now really belong to the Christian faith. In the past I called myself a Christian but didn’t really know what it was about or got involved. This event has made me think more about it and feel more.

On the Saturday evening I went out for healing and after the man prayed for my knee I felt extreme pain, then a burning sensation in my knee. When this subsided the pain was gone! I do a lot of kneeling in my job, and when I have to kneel sometimes it still hurts, but the pain does not linger like it used to before. Praise God!

I would like to thank Joss and Gill for inviting me to NORTH and Paul for encouraging me to go.

Having come to Gateway Church has changed my life – being amongst such nice, friendly, Christian people. “

We are all now looking forward to the ChristCentral Festival in August 2015

Week beginning August 12th

This was painting week at Shilbottle Community Hall at which a group of us volunteered to get involved. A great time was had by all who took part and the hall now looks fantastic. Thank you to those who helped out.

Saturday August 10th 2013

On Saturday August 10th, a group from Gateway Church Northumberland went for a walk on Lindisfarne. A trip to the museum, Priory and St. Cuthbert’s Island gave us an insight into Northumberland’s Spiritual past. The monks of several hundred years ago were described as

“small in number but strong in faith”

which we felt summed us up too.

Lunch in the Priory grounds, views from the old lookout tower, impromptu prays on St. Cuthbert’s Island and afternoon tea at a cafe in Beal completed the day. A great day out.

Sunday July 14th 2013

IMG_6150On Sunday July 14th Gateway Church went down to Bedlington to be at the baptism of Beth Wood. Beth gave a fantastic testimony about how God showed he was real and loves her very much before being baptised by Sarah & Lauren from County Church. A joyous occasion! Well done Beth!

Saturday July 6th 2013

A group from Emmanuel Church Durham came up to Shilbottle on Saturday July 6th to spend time with us praying and seeking God. We had some great times of worship and received words of encouragement for each individual person as well as for the church as a whole. The day was rounded off with a BBQ. A great day ~ thanks to all who came along.

Friday July 5th 2013

BBQOn Friday July 5th, a group from Gateway Church helped out at the Ceilidh and BBQ at Shilbottle Community Hall in conjunction with Shilbottle First School. A great evening of dancing, clog dancing demonstration from the children and eating burgers in the sunshine. Thanks to those who came along to help out and those who supported the event.

Saturday June 8th 2013
On Saturday June 8th a group of 10 from the chIMG_5870urch went for a walk up the coast from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle and then to Dunstan Steads and back to Craster. We visited the castle where we had lunch in the sunshine. The scenery was spectacular, the weather glorious and the kipper sandwiches and ice cream delicious! It was a great day getting to know each other, meeting old friends from City Church Newcastle and collecting wool for craft projects! We’re planning another walk soon ~ watch the upcoming events page for details.
